Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the table and making relevant comparisons. You provided a clear overall summary at the beginning, noting that the 16-20 age group spent the highest number of hours on the internet while the 51+ group spent the lowest. Specific data points from the chart were selected, such as the 19 and 18 hours for the 16-20 demographic, and comparisons were drawn between males and females across the categories. However, some ideas and details are under-developed or slightly repetitive in structure, and minor inaccuracies appear in data reporting, such as stating that males in the 26-30 group used the internet for four hours and females did the same without fully contrasting the nuances of other age brackets. To reach a higher band, all details should be fully integrated into a cohesive analytical overview with deeper comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure, dividing the information into an introduction with an overview, followed by a body paragraph detailing the age brackets. However, the cohesion between sentences is sometimes mechanical or faulty, and referencing is occasionally unclear. For example, transitional phrases and cohesive devices are limited, leading to choppy sentences such as 'Similrly the age group 21-25 male spent 7 hour and female accounted 5 hous.' Furthermore, paragraphing could be improved by separating the extreme values and the intermediate age groups into distinct paragraphs rather than clustering them together. To improve, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices smoothly and ensure that logical relationships between sentences are clearly signalled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic statistical information like 'highest', 'lowest', 'male', and 'female'. However, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that detract from the overall quality. Examples include 'aged group' instead of 'age group', 'invest the lowest time' rather than 'spend the least time', and spelling errors such as 'Similrly' and 'recoded'. You also attempt less common vocabulary items, but they are often inaccurate or unidiomatic in collocation, such as 'accounted the highest hours'. To move to a higher band, you need to use a wider range of precise lexical items naturally, avoiding spelling mistakes and awkward collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as subordinate clauses and comparative constructions. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly regarding verb forms, pluralisation, and prepositions. Examples of errors include 'six different age groups peoples', 'The 11-15 aged male spent more time recorded 8 hours', and 'The seniorcitizen showed less interest on internet usage'. Punctuation is also lacking in places, such as missing commas after introductory phrases in the overview. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they occur with enough frequency to prevent the grammar score from rising. To achieve a higher band, you must increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and maintain strict control over basic grammatical agreements and article use.
