Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While it provides an overview and selects some data from the table, key features are under-developed or inaccurately reported. For instance, the statement that the age group of 31-50 and 51+ experienced an increase in hours is factually incorrect based on the provided table, where the hours actually decrease. Furthermore, the description of comparisons lacks sufficient clarity and precision. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to present a fully accurate summary of the main trends without misinterpreting the data and ensure that all selected figures are correctly reported and supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation with an attempt at paragraphing, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as the awkward transition 'A breakdown of the gender reveals that...'. Referencing and logical sequencing between sentences occasionally falter, making the flow disjointed. To improve, the writer should use a wider and more accurate range of cohesive markers to connect ideas smoothly and structure the body paragraphs logically around clear topical themes rather than isolated data points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'tabular chart', 'differant', 'intenet', and 'increament'. The range of vocabulary is restricted, relying heavily on repeating the same terms from the prompt. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, incorporate less common vocabulary with greater precision, and eliminate basic spelling and word-formation errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences frequently result in grammatical errors. There are issues with article usage, prepositions, and verb forms, such as 'spend the significant number', 'allocating for 19 hours', and 'accounted increased by 1 hours'. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to practice constructing accurate complex sentences, improve control over grammatical patterns and verb tenses, and reduce basic structural mistakes.
