Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially by presenting data from the table, but the selection of features is somewhat mechanical and lacks a fully developed overview. Although 15 words were copied from the prompt, the response still meets the minimum length requirement. Main features such as the peak group (16-20 years) and the lowest group (51+) are identified, and some comparisons are made between males and females across age categories. However, the explanation of data trends remains limited and repetitive, with insufficient synthesis of the overall patterns shown in the chart. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to provide a clearer and more comprehensive overview of the main trends and integrate the comparisons more fluidly rather than listing data points individually.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates some overall organisation with paragraphs attempting to group details logically. However, there is no clear overall progression as the response relies heavily on repetitive transitional phrases such as "Looking into details" and "Looking Further". Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, making the flow somewhat disjointed. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of paragraphs lacks cohesive ties. To achieve a higher score, the writer should ensure a smoother progression of ideas by varying cohesive devices naturally and establishing clearer logical links between sentences and paragraphs without relying on repetitive formulas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer manages to report basic numbers and categories, but there are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as writing "16-20 ages people" instead of "those aged 16 to 20", and confusing terms like "femails" and "mail". Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, and some expressions feel unnatural or repetitive. To reach the next level, the writer should expand their lexical range to include more precise descriptive terms for data reporting, such as verbs and adverbs of degree, and eliminate basic spelling and word-form errors that distract the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in sentence construction, verb tenses, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement, such as "male spent 19 hours and femails 18 hours" and "a least internet user are over fifty one people". Punctuation is also inconsistent in places. To improve, the writer needs to increase the variety of complex sentence structures and improve grammatical control, ensuring that verbs match subjects correctly and that subordinate clauses are constructed accurately to reduce frequent errors.
