Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially, attempting to present an overview and select main features from the table. However, some of the overview statements are inaccurate and contradicted by the data, such as claiming that 'adult people spend most of their time on internet throughout the day' or that 'older aged group spend overall lesser hours... which makes lowest internet usage', while grouping data loosely without precise reference. The selection of data is somewhat limited, and certain comparisons lack clarity. For instance, the comment that 'Male and female people spend overall same time on internet' is a sweeping generalisation that misses the nuances across specific age brackets. To reach a higher level, the response needs to present a clearer, more accurate overview and support all general statements with precise, well-selected data points from the chart without sweeping inaccuracies.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text demonstrates some organisation with an attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is disrupted by repetitive phrasing and awkward transitions, such as starting multiple paragraphs with 'Overall' or 'Furthermore'. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate, repetitive, or mechanically applied, as seen with phrases like 'In contrast' and 'In addition' used without strong logical connection between the contrasting age groups. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it hard to follow the grouping of data. To improve cohesion, you should ensure a smoother progression of ideas, use a wider variety of cohesive devices naturally, and structure paragraphs so that each focuses on a distinct, clearly linked main feature.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, containing noticeable errors that reflect a lack of precision. Examples of awkward word choice and collocation include 'different aged groups', 'adult people spend most of their time on internet throughout the day', and 'older aged group'. There are also frequent awkward phrasings like 'male spend average 19 hours' instead of 'males spend an average of 19 hours'. These errors occasionally cause difficulty or hesitation for the reader. To achieve a higher score, you need to use a wider and more precise range of vocabulary, incorporating appropriate lexical items for data reporting (such as 'proportion', 'category', 'trend', or 'substantially') and avoiding repetitive, basic terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple or poorly constructed complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('on internet', 'is aged group'), incorrect prepositions ('on internet' instead of 'on the internet', 'aged group of'), and problems with subject-verb agreement or plural forms ('different aged groups', 'male spend'). Attempts at complex structures are often faulty, leading to awkward clause combinations that require the reader to slow down. To improve, you need to demonstrate better control over basic grammatical patterns, ensure correct use of articles and prepositions, and incorporate a wider variety of accurate complex sentence forms.
