Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially, attempting to present an overview and select some main features from the data. However, the interpretation of the data is confused and inaccurate in places, such as confusing percentages with hours and misreading specific figures from the table (for example, reporting percentages as 18% and 19% when the table shows hours spent, and stating that male and female figures were 7% and 5% instead of 7 and 5 hours). The overview is very basic and limited, and the lack of accurate data reporting restricts the development of the response, keeping it at a partial level of task completion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the essay, with an attempt at an introduction, body details, and a conclusion-like final sentence. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is disrupted by fragmented sentences and mechanical or missing transitions. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with ideas crammed together without clear logical grouping. Cohesive devices are used inadequately or inaccurately, and repetitive referencing ('the age group', 'the given table') hinders the readability of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with a restricted range that is barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as using 'interest' instead of 'hours' or 'time', and incorrect word forms like 'lagest' and 'chnges'. Spelling and word-choice errors are frequent ('yhose', 'European'), and although communication is sometimes maintained, the lexical limitations and inaccuracies cause difficulty for the reader throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple or awkwardly constructed sentences. Attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, such as in the opening sentence 'The given table illustrate the information... how many hours spent'. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement, missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and punctuation errors. These persistent mistakes cause frequent difficulty and strain for the reader.
