Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad pattern that internet use is highest among people aged 16–20 and lowest among the oldest groups, and you include several relevant figures, such as 19 hours for males and 18 for females aged 16–20. However, the account only partially reports the table: it does not clearly state that the figures are average hours, and the 11–15 values (8 and 6) are not accurately presented. Some descriptions, such as “spent larger percentage” and “used quality time,” do not explain the data clearly. The overview is relevant, but the comparison between the 11–15 and 21–30 groups is imprecise. Select the main figures accurately and describe them directly as hours to make the report more complete and clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an opening, an overview and body paragraphs, so the reader can recognise an attempt to organise the information. It also uses linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore” and “In Comparison.” However, progression is not consistently clear: the final paragraph repeats the point that the oldest group uses the internet least, while “Inconclusive” does not introduce a meaningful concluding point. Some links are awkward or do not show the relationship between ideas, and the age groups are not always compared in a systematic order. Grouping the figures into younger and older age bands, then comparing males and females within those groups, would create a clearer progression and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “age group,” “categories” and “compared,” and the reader can generally identify the topic. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a table. For example, “spent larger percentage of their time on social media” introduces a percentage and social media, neither of which is shown, while “used quality time” does not convey a measurable amount. “Consumed more time on internet” is also an awkward collocation, and spelling errors such as “peole” are noticeable. Use precise, neutral terms for the data, such as “spent,” “recorded” and “average hours,” and avoid adding unsupported context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to form longer sentences and use subordinate clauses, but the range is limited and complex sentences are often faulty. The opening, “The table illustrate an average time been used,” has errors in subject–verb agreement and verb form; “an European people” also shows inaccurate article use. Other examples include “age group 26-30 both men and women relatively spent” and “age 50+ use lesser time,” where sentence structure and verb forms are not controlled. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, particularly around commas and sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with clear clauses—for example, “Men aged 16–20 spent an average of 19 hours online.”
