Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main peak accurately: the 16–20 group records the highest figures, at 19 hours for males and 18 for females, and you note that use is lower in older groups. However, the summary is only partial because several important comparisons are missing or imprecise. For example, the 21–25 figures are 7 and 5, while the 26–30 figures are 4 for both sexes; the response does not report these clearly. The claim that male use is lower than female use above 31 is supported by the table, but the explanation about family responsibilities is speculation rather than information shown by the data. Focus on describing the figures and trends, and include a concise overview of the peak and the general decline with age.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some organisation: it begins with figures for younger groups, then discusses older users, and uses basic links such as “Meanwhile” and “As we go above.” However, the progression is not consistently clear. The first paragraph combines data reporting with a broad trend, while the second shifts to unsupported explanations about lifestyles; the final paragraph returns to the table without a clear summary. Some linking phrases are repetitive or vague, particularly “As we go above,” which does not specify the age group. Organise the response into a brief overview followed by paragraphs comparing age groups, and use precise references such as “among people aged 31 and over” to make connections clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a small range of relevant terms, including “age group,” “usage,” “rely on,” and “responsibilities,” so the general topic is understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive and some expressions are imprecise or unsuitable for an objective data summary. “Spent more time on the internet” is repeated, while “use internet more frequently” does not accurately express the table’s measure of hours. The phrase “they have a life and family to provide I guess” is informal and speculative, and “senior citizen” is awkward in this context. Spelling errors such as “becasue” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range for describing figures and comparisons, and avoid conversational or explanatory language not supported by the table.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences use simple structures, and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, the range is limited, and attempts to form longer sentences are often inaccurate. For example, “From 11-15 age group male spent more time” lacks clear article and preposition patterns, while “As we go above time spent on internet by both male and female gets lower” is structurally unclear. In “As we go above 31 male tend to use less internet less than female,” the comparison is repeated and the subject–verb form is incorrect. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “on the internet 8 hour.” Practise accurate comparative sentences, for example, “Among those aged 11–15, males spent two more hours online than females.”
