Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the broad pattern that males spend more time online in the younger groups and females slightly more in some older groups, and you correctly note the equal figure of four hours for ages 26–30. However, the response reports only a few figures and does not give a clear overview of the table’s main features, especially the peak at ages 16–20 (19 hours for males and 18 for females) and the decline to the lowest figures among people aged 51+. The explanation about assignments, research and job finding is speculative and not supported by the table; the final comment about the benefits of the internet is also outside the summarising task. The response is 111 words, below the required 150, which limits its coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the table, compares younger age groups, then moves to the older groups. Phrases such as “From age 26–30” and “From 31 onward” help signal these shifts. However, the ideas are not developed into a clear report structure, and there is no distinct overview paragraph summarising the main trend. The explanation about young adults’ activities interrupts the data comparison, while the final general statement does not connect logically to the table. Some linking is also repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “From.” Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and focused comparison paragraphs, using links that clarify relationships between the figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “average hours,” “age groups,” “equally,” and “peaks.” There is some attempt to vary expression with phrases such as “If we look closely” and “time taken to use internet,” but several choices are awkward or imprecise for a formal data summary. “Peaks days” does not accurately describe the age group with the highest figures, and “young adult hood” is an unnatural form. Repetition of “average hours spent on internet” also limits range. Prefer precise reporting language such as “recorded,” “highest,” “declined,” and “slightly exceeded,” and use “time spent online” to avoid repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes mostly simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to add detail through longer sentences. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors occur in basic structures and in the longer explanation. For example, “The table illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the average hours spent on internet is” has a mismatch between the plural noun and verb. In “internet has made is easy for us,” the sentence structure is faulty and obscures the intended meaning. Articles are also missing in phrases such as “on internet.” To improve, check agreement and articles, and build longer sentences around accurate comparisons—for example, “Male users spent 19 hours online, compared with 18 hours for females.”
