Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table illustrates the average time spent on the internet by Europeans of different ages.
It displays that teanagers from the age 16 to 20 spend most of their time on the internet while people above 50 spend the lowest time on internet. It also shows that in eary to middle age groups males spend more time on internet which is contrary to that on females.
Males and females from age 11 to 15 years old spend 8 and 6 hours on the internet respectively. Then comes people from age 16 to 20 which is the most any group spent their time on the internet. They spend 19 and 18 hours on the internet for male and female respectively. The time spent on internet starts to decrease from here, people that are from 21 to 25 years old spend 7 to 5 hours for male and females respectively. Both the males and females that are 26 to 30 years old spend 4 hours surfing the internet.
From here on the females take the lead. The age group of 31 to 50, the males and females time consumptions were 3 and 4 hours, whereas people older than 51 years spend 2 and 3 hours on internet respectively

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main pattern accurately: the 16–20 group records the highest internet use, the 51+ group the lowest, and male figures are generally higher until the female figures become higher in the older groups. The response also reports the figures for every age band, and the comparisons are grounded in the table. This gives the summary a clear, relevant focus. To make the overview more fully developed, state the broad age-related pattern explicitly—for example, use rises sharply from 11–15 to 16–20, then declines across the remaining groups. Also clarify that the male advantage applies to the first three groups, since the 26–30 figures are equal, before females lead in the final two groups. These refinements would make the key features more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a chronological account of the age groups. Phrases such as “Then comes” and “From here on” help signal progression, and the figures are presented in a generally logical order. However, some linking is mechanical, and the overview’s comparison between males and females is not quite precise because the 26–30 group is equal. The final paragraph also ends without a concluding sentence or full stop, which makes the ending feel abrupt. To strengthen cohesion, group the data into clearer phases—peak, subsequent decline, and older groups—and use references such as “this age band” carefully so each comparison is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing the table, including “average time,” “spend,” “decrease,” and “take the lead,” so the main information remains understandable. However, the range is limited and some expressions are repetitive or imprecise: “spend their time on the internet” recurs, while “time consumptions” is an unnatural collocation. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “teanagers” and “eary,” and phrases such as “the lowest time on internet” are not idiomatic. Aim for more precise reporting language and check spelling carefully. Alternatives such as “hours spent online,” “recorded the highest figure,” and “internet use declined” would make the description more natural and concise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “while” and a time sequence introduced by “Then.” Most of the data can be understood, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are noticeable. For example, “It displays that” is an awkward clause pattern, and “people that are from 21 to 25 years old spend 7 to 5 hours” has an unclear comparison structure. In “the males and females time consumptions were,” the possessive form and agreement are faulty; the final sentence also lacks terminal punctuation. Practise concise structures such as “Men aged 21–25 spent seven hours, compared with five for women,” and check articles, possessives, agreement, and punctuation.
