Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern: the 16–20 group has the highest figures for both sexes, while people aged 51+ have the lowest. You also report all six age groups and their male and female values accurately, which keeps the response relevant to the table. However, the overview is awkwardly expressed and does not clearly summarise the broader pattern that internet use generally declines after the 16–20 peak. Some descriptions add unsupported details, such as saying people used the internet “mostly daily” or “preferred” to use it; the table gives average hours, not frequency or preference. Make the overview clearer and describe only what the figures show.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview, and two paragraphs covering the age groups. This gives the reader some organisation, and the figures are presented in the same general order as the table. However, progression within the paragraphs is often difficult to follow because several comparisons are joined into long sentences. Linking expressions such as “however,” “moreover,” “furthermore,” and “in addition” are used mechanically or do not show a clear relationship between the information. For example, the sentence beginning “from a table” moves through three age groups without clear separation. Use shorter sentences and group the peak and younger ages separately from the older groups.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “average hours,” “age group,” and “internet,” and the reader can generally recognise the intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or unnatural, such as “used internet,” “use of an internet,” and “preferred to use of mostly hours internet.” These collocation and word-form problems sometimes make the meaning difficult to interpret. There are also spelling errors, including “betwen,” and inconsistent capitalisation of “European.” Aim for precise, natural reporting language rather than repeatedly using “use”: for example, say that a group “spent” a number of hours online or that its figure “was” a certain value.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to combine information using subordinate clauses and linking words, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make the relationships between figures unclear. For instance, “the provided table compares about the number of male and female show” lacks a workable grammatical structure, while “there have counted 4 male and 4 female” uses an incorrect verb form and omits a clear subject. Articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “in a age” and the long sentence beginning “from a table.” Build more accurate simple sentences first, such as “Among 26–30-year-olds, both men and women averaged four hours,” then add a few controlled comparisons. Check verb forms, articles, and punctuation.
