Average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The table provides the information about the average hours spent on the internet by european people of different age groups.

Overall the age group of 16 years to 20 years is spent the high average hours on internet , males are 19 or females are 18 of this age group as comparison to the age group of 51+ years is spent the lowest average hours on internet, Males are only 2 or females are 3 of this age group.

The age group of 11 years to 15 years is spent the high average hours on internet unlike the age group of 16 years to 20 years as per table information , an usually the age group of 26 years to 30 years is spent the balanced hours on internet as per gender , table provides the information the number or males and females in the age group of 26 years to 30 years is equal.

In the last as my understanding as the information provides by table, the age group from 16 years to 20 years is addicted to internet as per any other groups and the age group of 51+ years is almost spent a limited time on the internet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main extremes accurately: the 16–20 group has the highest figures (19 hours for males and 18 for females), while the 51+ group has the lowest (2 and 3). You also note that male and female figures are equal for ages 26–30. However, the overview is weakened by saying that 11–15 has the highest usage, which conflicts with the table, and the response does not clearly summarise the overall pattern across the age groups. The claim that the youngest group spends more time than 16–20 is also inaccurate. Avoid interpreting the figures as evidence of being “addicted”; instead, report the measured differences and include the remaining age-group trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has separate paragraphs for an introduction, an overview and further details, so there is some organisation and the reader can identify the topic. However, the progression is not consistently logical: the second paragraph first repeats the highest and lowest groups, then the next paragraph incorrectly calls 11–15 the highest. Linking phrases such as “unlike,” “as per table information” and “In the last” are either awkward or do not clarify the relationship between points. Some sentences combine several ideas without clear connections, making the comparison difficult to follow. Group the figures in a logical order, use one concise overview, and connect each comparison directly to the relevant age groups.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “average hours,” “age group,” “males,” “females” and “equal,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several repeated or inaccurate expressions make the report less natural. Phrases such as “is spent the high average hours” and “balanced hours” do not express the data clearly; “spend the most time” and “the same number of hours” would be more appropriate. “Addicted to internet” is an unsupported and overly strong interpretation of the figures. Aim for precise reporting language and vary expressions for increases, decreases and comparisons rather than repeatedly using “as per” and “information.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt longer sentences and use comparison structures, but control is inconsistent, and many sentences contain errors that make the relationships between ideas difficult to understand. For example, “the age group of 16 years to 20 years is spent” uses an incorrect verb pattern; write “people aged 16–20 spend.” In “males are 19 or females are 18,” the figures need a clearer grammatical frame, such as “males average 19 hours, compared with 18 for females.” Articles, prepositions and sentence boundaries are also unreliable, as in “on internet” and the long sentence beginning “The age group of 11 years to 15 years…”. Practise accurate simple comparisons before combining them into longer sentences.
