Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main peak and low point accurately: people aged 16–20 record the highest figures (19 hours for males and 18 for females), while the 51+ group records the lowest (2 and 3). You also report several useful comparisons, including the equal figures for ages 26–30. However, the overview is not fully precise: the claim that males use more internet in all age groups except 51+ overlooks the 31–50 group, where females record 4 hours compared with males’ 3. The description also treats the figures as daily use, although the table only gives average hours and does not specify a daily period. A clearer overview of the overall age pattern, alongside more careful comparison of every group, would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is arranged in a generally understandable sequence, moving through age groups and ending with an overall comparison. Separate paragraphs help distinguish the opening from the details. However, the progression is mostly a list of individual groups rather than a clearly organised summary of the main patterns. The opening does not provide a distinct overview, and the final sentence repeats a broad comparison that is not fully accurate. Linking phrases such as “In this range” and “Overall” are present, but connections between the examples remain basic. Grouping the age bands into higher-use and lower-use categories, then comparing male and female figures within those groups, would create a clearer progression and reduce the list-like effect.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for describing the table, including “age range,” “usage,” “difference,” and “spend,” so the topic remains clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “the humans of different ages,” “Leading age of internet users,” and “male dominates with 2 hours.” Repetition of “spend,” “hours,” and “internet” also makes the account less flexible. Some choices obscure the intended comparison: “male dominates with 2 hours” could be read as a two-hour advantage, although the difference is two hours and the male figure is seven. Use standard data-reporting collocations such as “recorded,” “accounted for,” and “the figure for” to express comparisons more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates its main points through mostly simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to add detail using relative clauses and comparisons. However, the range is limited, and errors occur often enough to make several sentences awkward or difficult to follow. For example, “The Leading age … is of the young ones ranging from the 16 to 20 years” has an unclear construction, while “Both male and female spend 2 and 3 hours respectively” has a mismatch between the plural subject and the singular forms. The sentence beginning “Youth from 21-25 also have the gap” is also structurally unclear. Practise accurate comparative sentence frames, such as “Males aged 21–25 spent two hours more than females,” and check articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries.
