Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main pattern that both sexes reach their highest Internet use at ages 16–20 and their lowest at 51+, and you include several relevant figures, such as 19 hours for males aged 16–20 and 8 hours for males aged 11–15. However, the report covers the table only partially: several age groups are not described precisely, and the overview does not capture the broader decline after the 16–20 peak. Some details are vague or inaccurate, such as saying the other male groups “spend minimum” without reporting their values. The final sentence is unfinished, which leaves the female figures and comparisons incomplete. A fuller summary should select the key trends and compare both sexes across the age groups.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. Phrases such as “Overall” and “By looking at the details” signal the intended stages of the report. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is weak: the male figures are discussed selectively, then the final paragraph returns to the 16–20 and 11–15 groups rather than completing a clear comparison. Linking phrases are repetitive and sometimes awkward, and references such as “the other groups” do not specify which ages are meant. The last sentence also ends abruptly, disrupting the report’s conclusion. Grouping the figures systematically—for example, comparing the peak, middle ages, and oldest groups—would make the information easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “age group,” “screen time,” and “compared to,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural for describing a table. “Spend their 19 hours digitally,” “on social media,” and “online world” do not accurately or naturally describe hours spent on the Internet in this context. Repeated use of “time spend” also limits precision, while “minimum time” is less suitable than language describing the lowest figure. Choose neutral, data-focused terms such as “hours online,” “recorded,” and “the lowest figure,” and use them consistently. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish the table’s measurements from activities such as social-media use.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts an overview and longer comparison sentences, but its grammatical range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. For example, “This table illustrate” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “most time spend on internet by male age group” lacks a clear grammatical structure. The phrase “male between 16-20 years spend their 19 hours” also has problems with number, verb form, and sentence construction. Articles and prepositions are often missing or incorrectly used, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with clauses such as “while” or “whereas.” Check agreement, articles, and complete sentence endings during revision.
