Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern that internet use peaks among people aged 16–20 and is lowest among those aged 51+, and you include figures for each age group. However, the overview is not consistently clear: the claim of a “slight difference between the genders” overlooks the larger gaps in the 11–15 and 21–25 groups, while the conclusion’s “almost a half day” is inaccurate for the 11–15 group, whose figures are 6 and 8 hours. The table reports internet use, but you repeatedly describe time on social media or technology, which adds unsupported detail. To make the summary more complete and precise, compare male and female figures directly and avoid interpretations such as “ideal time” that the data cannot establish.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an opening, a general overview, and further discussion of the age groups, so there is some organisation. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview, body information, and conclusion repeat similar points rather than developing a clear sequence. For example, the peak for ages 16–20 is stated in the second paragraph and repeated in the conclusion, while the final paragraph again repeats the gender comparison. Linking is also limited: “In conclusion” and “Moreover” do not clearly signal the relationship between the ideas that follow. Group the figures into a logical comparison—such as the peak, the decline with age, and gender differences—and use clear paragraph roles and references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “mean,” “significant amount,” and “proportion,” and the reader can generally identify the topic. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural in this context. “Mean of total time” is not a clear way to describe the table’s average hours, and “ideal time” gives an unsupported judgement rather than reporting data. Repeated references to “social media,” “technology,” and “online activities” also shift away from the table’s specific measure of internet use. Spelling errors such as “Childeren,” “intenet,” and “activites” are noticeable. Aim for precise, neutral terms such as “hours spent online” and “internet use.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, and most of the intended comparisons can be understood. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences. For example, “Then almost a half day spent by the childeren on intenet” lacks a clear subject–verb structure, and “a considerable proportion … spent by the youth” is also incomplete or awkwardly constructed. There are recurring problems with articles, prepositions, and sentence boundaries, as in “among people of ages 11 to 50 or more age” and “using intenet.People.” Capitalisation is inconsistent at the start of sentences, including “overall.” Practise complete subject–verb sentences and check punctuation and sentence boundaries.
