Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies the broad pattern that internet use is highest among people aged 16–20 and then falls across older groups, but it does not adequately summarise the table. It reports only approximate age-group averages, although the table gives separate male and female figures; this misses important comparisons, including the small gender differences and the equal figures for ages 26–30. The comments about mobile use, social media, games and health are not supported by the visual and take space away from reporting its data. The response is also 9 words below the required minimum. To improve, give a concise overview grounded in the table, compare the two sexes, and select accurate figures rather than adding speculation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic sequence: the opening reports figures by age, followed by comments about the peak group and possible effects of internet use. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “As we can see” signal connections. However, the response has no clear paragraphing or developed progression from an overview to supporting comparisons. Repeating “As we can see” is mechanical, and the shift from table data to unsupported discussion about teenagers’ health is abrupt. The long first section also runs several figures together, making them harder to follow. Separate the overview from the detailed comparisons, use clear sentence boundaries, and connect each point directly to the table.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses enough basic vocabulary to communicate the general topic, including “average time,” “age group,” and “social media.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or informal for an academic summary. “The most mobile used” does not clearly describe the table’s finding, while “addication” is misspelled and “these day” is an unsuitable expression. Repeated wording such as “As we can see” also limits variety. Use precise terms for the data, such as “internet use” and “average hours,” and avoid introducing informal or speculative language. More accurate collocations would make the comparisons clearer and more appropriate to Task 1.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, and the main meaning is generally recoverable. However, grammatical control is uneven: “The Table show us” has subject–verb disagreement, and “from 16 to 20 Years its 18.5 hours” lacks a clear sentence structure and punctuation. The sentence beginning “Spending this much time” shifts into a long explanation with unclear pronoun reference in “he dont want,” while “a teenager studies” does not form the intended possessive correctly. Capitalisation and spacing around sentence boundaries are also inconsistent. Practise accurate simple sentences for reporting figures, then add controlled comparisons using clauses such as “whereas” or “compared with.”
