Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the main peak correctly: the 16–20 group records 19 hours for males and 18 for females, and you note that the oldest group has the lowest figures. You also include several other values, so the response is relevant to the table. However, the overview is unclear, and some comparisons are inaccurate or incomplete: for example, 26–30 is not the lowest group, since 51+ records fewer hours, and the 31–50 female figure is 4, not an increase that can be described without comparison. The response also contains only 121 words, below the required 150; 12 words copied from the prompt were excluded. Add a clear overview and accurately compare the age groups.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is an attempt to organise the response into an opening, an overview beginning “Overall,” and a further paragraph of figures. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is difficult to follow because several sentences combine unrelated or incomplete points, such as “when many ages groups spent time 21-25 age groups spent time on internet.” Linking expressions including “similarly,” “therefore,” and “also” do not always show a clear relationship between the data. Paragraphing is present but does not yet create a coherent comparison of the age bands. Group the peak and subsequent decline together, then describe the lower figures, using clear links such as “By contrast” and “In the oldest groups.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “average hours,” “age groups,” “highest,” and “lowest,” which helps convey the general subject. However, the range is basic and repetitive, especially the repeated phrase “spent their time on internet.” Several word choices and collocations make the meaning unclear, as in “lowest spent time” and “increased female percentages.” There are also spelling errors such as “averege,” “sepnt,” and “geoups,” and “percentages” is inappropriate because the table reports hours, not percentages. Use precise terms such as “hours spent online,” “figure,” and “recorded,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the basic meaning of some figures can be understood. However, sentence structures are frequently incomplete or inaccurately formed, which sometimes obscures the comparisons. For example, “The table seemed 16-20 highest number” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “Table display lowest spent time on internet 26-30 age groups are same use mobile phone” combines clauses without a workable sentence pattern. Articles, agreement, and punctuation are also inconsistent, including the comma splice in the opening and the missing verb in “Overall, The table seemed…”. Build complete sentences with a subject and verb, and use controlled patterns such as “Males aged 16–20 spent 19 hours online, compared with 18 hours for females.”
