Average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given image is of a table ,which gives us vital information regarding time spent on internet in the European country at different level of their ages .

If we look closely it is clearly seen that the table is divided into two catagories , one is male and the other one is female . In the age between 16 to 20 years internet usage is on the peak. At the age of 50 plus, people avoid to use internet so that table shows minimum value at that time . But at the same time when we focus on age years between 26 to 30 it is quite equal .

In the year between 11 to 15 male spent 8 hours on internet while females spent 6 hours on spending for internet . when we talk about the age of 31 to 50 year old people which we can say that age towards get older the average time given to internet lessen upto 3 to 4 hours by male and females.

By contrast, when we stare at the age of youngsters between 21 to 25 it looks like 7 to 5 hours usage . So altimately it comes to know that as the age yaers increase the ratio between male and female of internet usage lessen.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main peak correctly: the 16–20 group has the highest figures for both sexes, and you note the equal values for ages 26–30. You also include several accurate comparisons, such as 8 versus 6 hours for ages 11–15 and 7 versus 5 for ages 21–25. However, the overview is not fully clear or consistently accurate. Saying people over 50 “avoid to use internet” goes beyond what the table shows; it only indicates the lowest averages, 2 hours for males and 3 for females. The final claim that the male–female ratio lessens as age increases is also too broad, since the gap varies and reverses in the 31–50 and 51+ groups. Select the overall pattern more precisely and report the remaining key figures accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some organisation: it begins by introducing the table, then discusses the peak and lowest groups before giving comparisons for other ages. Basic linking phrases such as “By contrast” and “when we talk about” show an attempt to connect points. However, the progression is not consistently clear, and several ideas are repeated or loosely connected. For example, the discussion moves from the oldest group to ages 26–30, then back to 11–15 and 31–50, before returning to 21–25. The final sentence introduces a general conclusion that does not clearly follow from the figures. Group the age bands in a more deliberate order, and use a concise overview followed by paragraphs comparing the highest and lower values.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “average time,” “internet usage,” “peak,” and “minimum value,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning harder to follow. For instance, “people avoid to use internet” is not an appropriate description of a low average, while “time given to internet lessen” and “ratio … lessen” do not express the comparisons clearly. There are also spelling errors such as “catagories,” “altimately,” and “yaers.” Aim for precise reporting language and accurate collocations, such as “recorded,” “spent online,” “declined,” and “the difference between male and female figures.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses beginning “when we focus on” and “when we talk about,” but complex constructions are often faulty and errors occur frequently. Examples include “The given image is of a table, which gives us,” where the opening is awkwardly formed, and “In the year between 11 to 15 male spent,” which has problems with the preposition pattern and sentence structure. In “the average time … lessen,” the verb does not agree with its subject, and several sentences lack clear punctuation or use it inconsistently. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Practise writing short, complete comparison sentences first, then combine them with accurate clauses and check articles, agreement, and punctuation.
