Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response identifies the topic and attempts comparisons across several age groups, including the equal figures for ages 26–30 and the female advantage among people aged 51 and over. However, the main features are not reported accurately or clearly enough: for ages 16–20, males record 19 hours and females 18, so the claim that females use the internet more is incorrect. The statement that 11–15-year-olds account for “6 percent” also confuses hours with percentages, and the overview does not identify the clear peak at ages 16–20 or the general decline among older groups. The final comparison is unfinished. Select the key patterns, report the units as hours, and check each figure against the table.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response with an opening statement, an overview beginning “Overall,” and comparisons introduced by “Moreover” and “Furthermore.” These markers show an effort to connect ideas, but the information is not arranged in a clear progression: the overview is vague, and the response moves between age groups without a consistent pattern. Some linking phrases, such as “Rather, then female,” do not form a clear connection to the preceding point. The final sentence stops before completing its comparison, which leaves the discussion without a proper ending. Use a distinct overview followed by logically grouped comparisons, for example, the younger groups first and the older groups second.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some topic-related vocabulary, including “age groups,” “usage,” “proportion,” and “internet occupancy,” and it attempts a range of descriptive terms. However, word choice and spelling errors often make the meaning difficult to follow. Phrases such as “dominant by 6 percent,” “prevelant ration,” and “substantial increase” are either inaccurate or unclear in this context; the table reports hours, not percentages or ratios. There are also misspellings such as “Individulas,” “consititutes,” and “Futhermore.” Prefer precise, natural expressions such as “spent online,” “recorded,” and “hours per week” only if the table specifies that period; otherwise simply say “hours.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes obscure the intended comparisons. For example, “the different age groups lies” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “Female has higher ratio … among male” lacks accurate sentence structure and number agreement. The phrase “Adults lies in between 31 to 50” also has problems with agreement and the construction used to describe an age range. Several sentences are incomplete or awkwardly joined, particularly “Rather, then female” and the unfinished final sentence. Practise complete comparison sentences with clear subjects and verbs, such as “Men aged 16–20 spent one more hour online than women in the same group.”
