Average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The table illustrate the information about hours spent on the internet by European individuals of different age groups. The data are categorized into two types(e.g., male and female).

Overall, male group from age 16 to 20 accounted for the highest figure, whereas 51+ age group in men represented the lowest. However, the female age group also recored the highest figure among 16 to 20 years, where the lowest is 51+.

In the years of 16-20 male group recoreded 19 hours which was the highest than all the other age group.Age 11-15 stood at the second number with 8 hours spent on the internet.,followed by the years of 21-25 with 7 hours. Age 26-30 occupied the next position, registering 4 hours in a day.By contrast 31-50 age group resigtered only 3 hours and age 51+ just 2 hours which was the lowest figure.

The female group approximately recoreded the same time as male with highest figure of 18 hours between the age of 16 to 20.Age 11-15 ranked at the second with 6 hours spent on internet, followed by the age of 21 to 25 which stood at the 5 hours.Next the age between 26 to 31 and 31 to 50 both occupied the same position with 4 hours, respectively. Years of 51+ was the lowest category with only 3 hours.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main pattern accurately: the 16–20 group records the highest figures for both sexes, while the 51+ group is lowest for men and women. You also report most values correctly and make relevant comparisons between the age groups. This gives the response a clear overview and covers the table’s main features. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the female 26–30 group is described as “26 to 31,” and the claim that this group and ages 31–50 “occupied the same position” overlooks that they are separate categories, even though both have four hours. The overview could also highlight the broad decline after ages 16–20 more explicitly. More precise reporting and a sharper summary would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a sensible overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing male and female figures. The age groups are generally presented in a logical order, and linking expressions such as “followed by” and “By contrast” help show sequence and comparison. The organisation is clear enough for the reader to follow. However, some connections are mechanical or awkward, particularly the repeated use of “followed by” and “Next,” and the overview’s “However” does not express a clear contrast. Punctuation also interrupts flow in places, such as the full stop after “internet” before “followed by.” Use more varied, accurate transitions and connect comparisons directly to improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing table data, including “accounted for,” “stood at,” “registering,” and “ranked.” These choices show an attempt to vary the language rather than repeat “had” throughout, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “highest than all the other age group,” “second number,” and “occupied the same position.” There are also spelling errors, including “recoreded” and “resigtered,” and “in a day” adds a time detail not stated in the table. Aim for precise reporting phrases such as “the highest figure,” “ranked second,” and “spent hours online”; careful proofreading would also improve accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the overview contrast beginning “Overall” and the clause “which was the lowest figure.” Most of the information remains understandable, and the response shows some control of past-tense reporting. However, errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation recur. For example, “The table illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “male group … accounted” would be clearer as “the male group … accounted.” Several sentences run together because spaces after full stops are missing, and the sentence beginning “Age 11-15 stood…” contains an incorrect full stop before “followed.” Check agreement and articles, and use consistent punctuation to make the sentence structures more accurate.
