Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given table provides information about the time spent on the Internet by European individuals of different age groups.
Overall, it is evident that in the age group of 16-20 had the maximum number of male and female, while 51+ range group had the least number of male and female. However, from teenager to young age group had most male number, whereas young to mid- range age had most number of female.
Looking first at the age group from (11-15) to (21-25), the age group from 11-15 had 8 male and 6 female, while the age group from 16-20 had the most male and female among all the age group which were 19 and 18 respectively. However, 21-25 age range had 7 male and 5 female.
Turning to the age group from (26-30) and 51+, 26-30 age range had an equal number of male and female, which was 4. Age range (31-50) group had 3 male and 4 female, while 51+ age group had 2 male and 3 female.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern that the 16–20 group has the highest figures for both sexes and that the 51+ group has the lowest, and most of the numbers you report match the table. However, the overview is partly unclear: the claim that “from teenager to young age group had most male number” and “young to mid-range age had most number of female” does not clearly describe a consistent comparison, and the latter is not supported by the figures as written. The table shows males slightly exceed females in the first three groups, the figures are equal at 26–30, and females are slightly higher in the two oldest groups. Include this clear sex-based pattern in the overview and describe the units as average Internet hours, rather than numbers of people, to make the summary more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group the younger and older age ranges. This makes the figures reasonably easy to locate. However, progression is weakened by unclear links between ideas, especially in the overview, where “However, from teenager to young age group…” does not clearly connect to the preceding statement. “However” is also used when the contrast is not always clear, and repeated phrases such as “age group” and “age range” make the report feel mechanical. Improve cohesion by organising comparisons consistently—for example, first describe the peak and decline across age groups, then compare male and female figures—and use linking words only where they express a genuine contrast.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing the table, including “provides information,” “maximum,” “least,” and “equal number,” so the reader can understand the general subject and several comparisons. However, the range is limited and some word combinations are inaccurate or awkward. “Most male and female” and “most male number” do not naturally describe hours, while “young to mid-range age” is vague. Repetition of “age group” also limits flexibility. Use precise terms for the data and comparisons, such as “average hours,” “highest figures,” “lowest usage,” and “the male figure exceeded the female figure.” This would make the report more natural and help distinguish the amount of time spent online from the number of people.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including comparisons joined with “while,” and the main figures are generally understandable. However, several sentence structures are faulty, which sometimes makes relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “in the age group of 16-20 had the maximum number” lacks a clear grammatical subject, and “from teenager to young age group had most male number” is not a complete, well-formed comparison. There are also problems with articles and number agreement in phrases such as “among all the age group.” Practise building complete clauses with a clear subject and verb, and check singular/plural forms. For instance: “The 16–20 age group recorded the highest average for both males and females.”
