Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the table’s subject and include the key peak: people aged 16–20 spend the most time online, at 19 hours for males and 18 for females. You also note that the 51+ group spends less time, and report the 11–15 figures accurately. However, the overview is vague (“there are different age groups”) and does not clearly summarise the overall pattern across age groups or the small gender differences. The final sentence mentions three groups but gives no figures for them, so important comparisons are left unclear. The response is also 33 words below the required minimum. To improve, give a precise overview and report the remaining figures, especially the equal values at ages 26–30 and the slight female lead among older groups.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an attempted overview, and details about several age groups. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is limited because the overview does not establish a clear pattern, and the final sentence groups three age ranges together without explaining their values or how they compare. Linking is also sometimes awkward: “while” begins a new sentence after a full stop, and “However” does not introduce a clear contrast. Organise the details into a clearer progression, such as describing the peak first and then comparing the younger and older groups. Use linking words only where the relationship between the figures is explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “average hours,” “age groups,” and “spent online,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise for describing a table. “Consumed 19 and 18 hours” is not a natural collocation here, while “average period of hours” does not clearly communicate the figures. There is also a spelling error in “simualtaneously.” Aim for concise, conventional data-reporting language and use precise terms such as “recorded,” “spending,” and “respectively.” This would make the comparisons clearer and reduce repetition of “spent time over the internet.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and longer comparisons, for example, “The other age group, such as 11-15…” However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and agreement occur often enough to make some statements difficult to follow. In “there are different age groups of male and female and there average hours,” the clause is not well formed and “there” is used where a possessive is needed. “Age group from 16-20” also lacks a clear grammatical subject, and “while” is incorrectly capitalised after a full stop. Practise building complete comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check punctuation and possessives before finishing.
