Average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The table chart shows the data about the average hours spent on internet by European people of different age groups.

Overall, it is clearly visible that chart express the hours spent by male and female groups of different age groups. Age group 11 to 15, male and female individuals hour spenting on internet is about 8 to 6 hours. In next group students increased about 18 to 19. In the next age group 21 to 25, students decline up to 7 and 5. Age group 26 to 30, students declined up to 4 and 4. Age group 31 to 50 and age group 51+ started decline.

In conclusion, the students who aged 16 to 20, using more internet and individuals who aged over 50+ stopped using internet. This shows major difference between age group over time. People who becoming habitual of using internet become more active toward social media apps and websites. Whereas the individuals who lacks interest in using social media stopped using internet in their life in Europe.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the table’s subject and report several relevant figures, including the peak for people aged 16–20 (19 hours for males and 18 for females) and the lower figures among older groups. However, the summary only partially selects and explains the main features. The overview is vague, and the claim that people aged over 50 “stopped using internet” is inaccurate: the table shows averages of 2 hours for males and 3 for females. You also omit the female figure for ages 31–50 and do not clearly describe the overall pattern: usage peaks at 16–20, then generally falls with age, with small differences between sexes. Focus on accurate comparisons and avoid unsupported explanations about social media habits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, a main paragraph and a concluding paragraph, and it follows the age groups in a broadly understandable order. However, progression is limited: the main paragraph reads like a sequence of separate observations, while the conclusion repeats the peak-age point and then introduces ideas about social media that do not develop the table summary. Linking phrases such as “In the next age group” and “In conclusion” are used, but they do not always make the relationships between figures clear. For example, “started decline” does not specify what is declining or how the final age groups compare. Group related figures into a clear overview and comparison, and use references that make each comparison easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “average hours,” “age group,” “increased” and “decline,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Table chart” is redundant, “students” is not an appropriate label for all people in the age groups, and “stopped using internet” overstates the data. Phrases such as “individuals who lacks interest” also make the meaning less natural. Use precise terms for the data, such as “internet use,” “average time spent online” and “fell to,” and vary how you describe the male and female figures. Avoid adding vocabulary about habits or social media that the table does not support.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response communicates its basic message through mostly simple sentence patterns, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make some statements awkward or unclear. For example, “chart express” lacks subject–verb agreement, while “male and female individuals hour spenting” has problems with possessive structure and verb form. In “the students who aged 16 to 20, using more internet,” the relative clause and main verb are incomplete. Articles and prepositions are also inconsistent, as in “spent on internet.” Aim for complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and verb forms. A reliable pattern would be: “Males aged 16–20 spent an average of 19 hours online, compared with 18 hours for females.”
