Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main peak accurately: males aged 16–20 recorded 19 hours and females 18, while the 51+ male figure of 2 hours is the lowest. You also note the equal 4-hour figures for ages 26–30 and report the other age-group values, so the response is relevant and includes an overview. However, the overview is brief and some comparisons are described unclearly; for example, “biggest amount consisted on” does not clearly state that this age group had the highest usage. The response contains 143 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 13 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop the overview and comparisons more clearly, and meet the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction and overview are followed by details about the age groups. This gives the reader a general route through the information, and words such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “Furthermore” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is not consistently clear, and several transitions are inaccurate or mechanical. For instance, “After this 2nd number of children” is difficult to follow, while “in addition” introduces the final age group without clarifying its relationship to the preceding figures. Punctuation and spacing also make some sentences run together. Group the figures in a clear sequence, use precise comparisons, and separate each sentence with appropriate punctuation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “average hours,” “accounted for,” “figure,” and “in contrast,” and the reader can generally identify the age groups and values being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning awkward: “biggest amount consisted on,” “used too much internet,” and “it shortly increased” do not express the intended comparisons naturally. Spelling errors such as “defferent,” “categary,” and “adition” are also noticeable. Aim for precise reporting language such as “recorded,” “spent,” “highest,” and “fell,” and check spelling carefully. Avoid describing high usage as “too much,” which suggests excess rather than simply a larger figure.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the main figures are usually understandable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and frequent errors in sentence formation and punctuation make parts difficult to read. For example, “Old people male who were 51+ years old they accounted for shortest figure” has an unclear subject structure, while “26-30 year old male and female used internet same quantity at 4 hours” is missing grammatical elements. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “female categary at 4 hours.in adition.” Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use commas and full stops to separate comparisons.
