Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the table’s subject and report a few relevant comparisons, including the peak for ages 16–20 and the equal figures for males and females aged 26–30. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it gives no clear overview of the overall pattern and omits most age groups and figures. The claim that male and female averages are “almost similar” is too broad without explaining the differences across groups; for example, the gap is larger at ages 11–15 and 21–25 than in some other bands. The response is also well below the required 150 words. To improve, provide an overview, then select and compare the main figures across the age groups.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The ideas are presented in a generally understandable order: you introduce the table, mention the highest and lowest age groups, and then give two comparisons. Basic linking words such as “However” and “and” help connect points. Nevertheless, the response is very brief and has no paragraphing or clear progression from an overview to supporting details. The relationship between the statement about overall similarity and the following age-specific comparisons is not fully explained. Organise the report into a short introduction and overview, followed by a paragraph comparing the figures, using clear references to the age groups so each point builds on the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the general topic, with relevant expressions such as “average time spent,” “age group,” and “spent the most time.” The meaning is usually clear, but the range is limited and some phrasing is imprecise or repetitive. For instance, “uses internet just two to three hours” is an awkward way to describe the figures, and “Average number of both males and females” does not clearly identify what is being averaged. Use more precise reporting language, such as “recorded,” “hours online,” and “respectively,” while avoiding repeated forms of “spent.” This would make comparisons clearer and more appropriate to an academic data summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use several simple sentence forms, and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. There is also an attempt to combine ideas, as in “However, the 16–20 age group spent the most time as compared to 51+ age group.” However, grammatical control is uneven: “males uses” and “who uses” have subject–verb agreement errors, while “the 51+ age group” needs an article. The sentence beginning “Average number of both males and females” is also structurally incomplete or unclear. Aim for accurate subject–verb agreement and complete sentence structures, and vary sentence patterns by using clauses such as “while” or “whereas” to compare groups.
