Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main pattern that males record higher figures in the younger groups, while females are higher in the older groups, and you correctly report the peak for ages 16–20 and the low for those aged 51+. Most figures are accurate, including the tie at ages 26–30. However, the overview says females dominate “in age 30 and above,” which is imprecise because the 26–30 group is equal, not female-led. The response also describes the table row by row rather than selecting and comparing the most significant patterns; for example, the sharp fall after the 16–20 peak could be highlighted more clearly. A more precise overview and stronger grouping of age bands would make the key features clearer and more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a sequence of details. This helps the reader follow the age groups, and phrases such as “In the last column” signal movement through the table. However, the body largely follows the table mechanically, with repeated openings such as “In the second column” and “In third column,” rather than grouping related comparisons. The overview is also repeated at the end, and the final sentence is awkwardly separated from the preceding point. Some transitions are missing or run together, as in “groups.However.” Organise the details into younger and older age groups, use clearer links between comparisons, and avoid repeating the same summary.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant basic vocabulary, including “average,” “age group,” “higher,” and “lowest,” so the general meaning is usually understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate: “illustrates the knowledge” does not describe what the table shows, and “male dominate the average time” is not a natural way to report the figures. There are also spelling errors such as “aveage” and “arounf,” alongside repeated use of “column” and “average.” These choices make the report less precise and occasionally slow the reader. Use standard data-reporting language such as “shows,” “recorded,” and “hours spent,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and longer clauses, and several comparisons are understandable. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, particularly in subject–verb agreement and sentence construction. For example, “the male dominate” should be “males spend,” while “male and female both shares” needs a plural verb (“share”). The opening sentence lacks a clear grammatical structure, and “female in age 30 and above dominates the group” is difficult to parse. Punctuation also affects readability: there is no space after “groups.” and the sentence beginning “and lowest” is not properly connected. Practise forming complete comparison sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, and use full stops and commas to separate ideas.
