Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad pattern that the 16–20 age group spends the most time online and that the oldest group spends the least, and you report several figures accurately, including 8 and 6 hours for ages 11–15 and 7 and 5 for ages 21–25. However, the response is incomplete: it stops before reporting the 31–50 and 51+ figures, and the final sentence about middle-aged women is unfinished. The overview also does not clearly summarise the general decline after the 16–20 peak. The response contains 133 words, below the required 150; eight words copied from the prompt were not counted. To address the task more fully, include the missing comparisons and complete the summary of the table’s main patterns.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing younger and older age groups. Phrases such as “Overall,” “while,” and “For the remaining age groups” help signal relationships between points. However, progression is weakened by the abrupt ending and by the final sentence, which does not complete its idea. Some information is also presented in an awkward order, such as “8 hours male, and female just 6 hours,” making the comparison less smooth. Organise the figures consistently by age group, state both sexes together, and finish with a complete sentence covering the oldest groups. This would make the progression clearer and reduce the impression of a list.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “average hours,” “age groups,” “highest,” and “lowest,” so the reader can understand the general subject and comparisons. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise. “Spent their time on the internet” is repeated, while “male teenager” and “female tenager” are not natural ways to describe the groups. There are also spelling errors, including “tenager” and “hurs,” and “constant” is not the best choice for equal figures. Use concise data-reporting language such as “spent 19 hours online,” “male users,” and “the figure was the same for both sexes.” Proofreading spelling and collocations would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including a comparison with “while” and a clause introduced by “whereas.” These help communicate contrasts, but control is inconsistent. The overview lacks a main verb in “the highest amount of time spent on the internet by teenage group,” and “male teenager spent their time” has problems with articles and agreement. The sentence beginning “The male younger generation (21-25), they spent…” also uses an unclear, duplicated subject. The final sentence is incomplete. Practise complete subject–verb structures and check articles, singular/plural forms, and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make the comparisons easier to follow.
