Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given tabular data illustrates the average hours of time spent on the internet by European people of various age group. While the age ranges between 11 to 51+ years and it also includes the time spent by the each genders of same age group.
The time spent by the age group had a significant uphill trend starting from 11-15 age group and it increased twice of the previous age group by the 16 to 20 age group however, later groups had saw a significant dip with negative trend of hours spent as the age of the population increases.
The highest amount of difference of time spent by genders of the same age group is 2 hours whereas the minimal was zero hours spotted at the 26 to 30 age group.
Overall, Young generation have spent higher amount of the hours on the internet whereas the elderly population have spent lesser time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad pattern accurately: internet use peaks among 16–20-year-olds and is lower among older groups, and you note the gender gap ranges from zero to two hours. However, the overview is imprecise: “increased twice” does not clearly describe the rise from 8/6 to 19/18, and the claim that hours decline as age increases overlooks the initial rise and the small female increase from 3 to 4 in the 31–50 group. The response also gives no specific figures for the later age groups, limiting the comparisons. It is six words below the 150-word minimum, with eight prompt words excluded from the count. Develop the overview and support it with selected figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a description of the main trend, a gender comparison, and a concluding overview. This gives the reader a generally coherent progression, and linking expressions such as “however” and “Overall” help signal relationships between ideas. To make the organisation more effective, combine the repeated general statements about age and internet use and use the space for a more systematic comparison of the age groups. Some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly “it increased twice of the previous age group,” which makes the intended comparison difficult to follow. A clearer sequence—peak, subsequent decline, then gender differences—would strengthen progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “average,” “significant,” “trend,” “difference,” and “population,” and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural for describing a table: “uphill trend,” “negative trend of hours,” and “highest amount of difference” are not well-controlled collocations. Repetition of “time spent” and “age group” also limits flexibility. Choose concise, conventional language for data reporting, such as “rose sharply,” “declined,” and “the largest gender gap.” Check word forms and phrasing too: “various age group” and “lesser time” are awkward in this context. More precise vocabulary would make the comparisons clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “While” and a sentence using “however.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “While the age ranges between 11 to 51+ years and it also includes…” is an incomplete and awkwardly joined construction; “the age group had… it increased” has unclear subject reference; and “later groups had saw” uses an incorrect verb form. There are also agreement and article problems in “Young generation have spent” and “by the each genders.” Aim for shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with accurate verb forms and agreement.
