Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern: the 16–20 group has the highest figures for both sexes, while the oldest group has the lowest, and you include several relevant comparisons. However, coverage is incomplete and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the table gives ages 31–50, not 31–40, and the statement that the male figure was “less than 1 of 4” does not clearly report the value of 3. The overview also says young adults spend significant time online but does not clearly summarise the overall decline after ages 16–20. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the peak and subsequent fall, then report the age bands and figures precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence through the age groups, and linking expressions such as “Whereas,” “However,” and “Afterwards” show an attempt to connect comparisons. Nevertheless, progression is not consistently clear: several transitions are used as sentence openings without a complete or well-connected sentence, and the paragraph is presented as one block after the overview. The repeated pattern of introducing an age group and then listing figures also makes the report feel mechanical. Some references, such as “the numbers” and “this category,” are not always precise about whether they mean hours or people. Organise the details into a separate paragraph and use clearer links to show the rise to the peak and the decline across later groups.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “table,” “age groups,” “accounted for,” and “relatively stable,” so the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. “Proportion hours” is not a natural way to describe the data, and “numbers of people” incorrectly suggests counts of people rather than hours. Phrases such as “elderly old aged people” are repetitive, while “female also dominating this category” is an awkward description of a figure that is only one hour higher. Use precise terms such as “hours,” “figure,” and “spend,” and avoid repeating the same wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There are attempts to use more than simple statements, including contrast clauses beginning “While” and “Whereas,” but these are often incomplete or inaccurately formed. For instance, “While elderly aged people spend less time…” is a dependent clause without a main clause, and “Whereas, age 16–20 both male and female experienced spending more time” has an unclear structure. Agreement and verb forms are also unreliable in “Male accounted only 8” and “the numbers was relatively stable.” Articles and prepositions are sometimes missing or misplaced, as in “on internet.” These recurring errors can make relationships between figures difficult to interpret. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and use a consistent pattern such as “Men aged 16–20 spent 19 hours online.”
