Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main peak and low point accurately: people aged 16–20 record the highest figures (19 hours for males and 18 for females), while the 51+ group has the lowest (2 and 3). You also include several other age groups and attempt an overall comparison. However, the overview is vague, and the claim that males spend more time than females “of all ages” is inaccurate: females are higher in the 31–50 and 51+ groups, and the sexes are equal at 26–30. Some comparisons are also unclear, such as the statement about females aged 26–30 and 31–50. A clearer overview of the overall pattern, supported by accurate comparisons across the groups, would make the response more complete and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, a general statement, and a paragraph describing selected figures. The information is mostly relevant, and phrases such as “While” and “In comparison” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is limited: the age groups are not presented in a consistently clear order, and several points are joined in a way that makes their relationship difficult to follow. For example, the sentence about females aged 26–30 and 31–50 is confusing, while “The second least age of people” does not clearly introduce the next comparison. Organise the figures by age range and use linking expressions only where they accurately show contrast or sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “average time,” “genders,” “least,” and “in comparison.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For instance, “the second least age of people” is not an appropriate way to describe the 31–50 group, and “can spent” is an unsuitable expression for reporting the table. There are also spelling errors such as “tnan” and “comaprison.” Aim for precise, repeated-useful terms such as “hours spent online,” “the oldest age group,” and “recorded,” and check spelling before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, including a comparison introduced by “While,” but control is inconsistent and errors occur frequently. Subject–verb agreement is incorrect in “The tables shows” and “The table start,” while “can spent” uses the wrong verb form in several places. Articles and sentence construction also need attention: “the averages hours” and “the males spent the average hours of 19” are not grammatically well formed. Some sentences combine several ideas without clear punctuation, making the comparisons harder to understand. Practise accurate present-simple reporting forms, such as “The table shows” and “males spent an average of 19 hours,” before adding more complex clauses.
