Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the subject and make an attempt at an overview by noting that internet use is generally higher among younger people and lowest among older groups. However, the response stops mid-sentence (“children spent less hours on”), so it does not report the table’s key comparisons or give supporting figures. The overview is also imprecise: the peak is among 16–20-year-olds, not simply “teenagers,” and the 11–15 group is not the highest. The task requires at least 150 words, and this response is substantially below that minimum. To address the task more fully, complete the overview and compare the male and female figures across the age groups, including the peak and the older groups’ low values.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory sentence is followed by a separate overview paragraph, and “Overall” and “Furthermore” signal how the ideas relate. This gives the short response some structure. However, there is no clear progression into detailed reporting, and the final sentence is unfinished, ending with “on”. As a result, the reader cannot follow the intended point or see how the overview would be supported. Develop a complete paragraph after the overview, grouping the age bands logically—for example, the peak at 16–20, followed by the decline among older groups—and use comparisons to connect the figures rather than relying on a few linking words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “table,” “age groups,” “internet,” and “Europe,” and “typical hours” conveys the general subject. There is some attempt to vary expression with “online platforms” and “spent.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing the data: “online platforms” is not equivalent to internet use, and “young age” and “old age groups” are awkward. “Most time spent” is also unclear without specifying the age group or figures. The unfinished phrase “less hours” shows an inaccurate form. Use precise terms such as “average hours online,” “the youngest age group,” and “older people,” and select vocabulary that describes the table rather than adding a different concept.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You produce a few complete sentences and attempt a more complex overview sentence using “while,” as well as a passive construction in “it could be seen that.” These show some range, and the main meaning of the opening is understandable. However, control is uneven: “most time spent on the internet by both males and females in young age started from teenagers” has an unclear structure, while “children spent less hours on” is incomplete and contains a plural agreement error (“less hours”). The response therefore does not yet show consistently controlled sentence forms. Practise building direct comparisons with a clear subject and verb, such as “Both sexes recorded their highest figures among 16–20-year-olds,” and check that each sentence is complete and that quantifiers agree with countable nouns.
