Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the table’s subject and give a basic overview by noting that the 16–20 group has the highest figures and the 51+ group the lowest. You also report several male and female values accurately. However, the overview is imprecise: the highest figures belong to ages 16–20, not 11–15, and the lowest figures are for 51+. The 26–30 figures (4 hours for both sexes) are omitted, and the comparison of the overall pattern is limited. The response contains 122 words, below the required 150; the eight words copied from the prompt are excluded from that count. Add a fuller overview and compare the age groups and sexes more clearly, using the remaining space to report key data accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an opening sentence, an overview, and a paragraph reporting figures. Sequencing the age groups mostly from younger to older helps the reader follow the data, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “Similarly” signal relationships. However, the progression is weakened by repetitive sentence patterns beginning “the people who spend,” and “Therefore” does not clearly express a logical conclusion. The 26–30 group is skipped, interrupting the sequence. Use a clearer paragraph plan—for example, overview followed by comparisons of the younger and older groups—and vary linking language so that each connection accurately reflects the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “average hours,” “internet,” “age,” “male,” and “female,” so the subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice or form errors make the description less natural: “te” for “the,” “group ages,” “hour spend,” and “send on internet.” The repeated phrase “people who spend on the internet” also makes the report sound repetitive. Choose concise data-reporting expressions and use them consistently, such as “hours spent online,” “age group,” and “recorded.” Check spelling and collocations carefully, and avoid repeating a long phrase when a shorter alternative such as “this group” or “users” is clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate the figures mainly through simple clauses, and the reader can usually understand the intended comparisons. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “the highest average hour spend … were” has problems with both the noun phrase and subject–verb agreement, while “people who spends” does not agree in number. The sentence beginning “To begin with” also joins several comparisons in a repetitive structure. Practise accurate patterns such as “Men aged 16–20 spent 19 hours on average, compared with 18 for women.” Use a few varied comparison structures, checking agreement and tense in each.
