Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response identifies the main pattern accurately: the 16–20 group has the highest figures for both sexes, while people aged 51 and over have the lowest. It also reports the values for all six age groups, and the figures given match the table. This gives the summary a sound factual basis and addresses the task. The overview is relevant, but “highest internet users” is not quite precise because the table measures average hours, not numbers of users. The comparisons are mostly presented as a list, with limited synthesis of the broader pattern—for example, that usage falls after the 16–20 peak and is generally higher among males in younger groups. A clearer overview and more developed comparisons would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs reporting the figures. The sequence from the peak and lowest groups to the remaining age bands is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “Moreover” help signal progression. However, the organisation is somewhat list-like, and some connections are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “As compared to only 2 and 3 male and female used internet” does not clearly express the comparison, while “However” does not introduce a genuine contrast in that sentence. Grouping the age bands into a clearer pattern and using more precise referencing would make the progression smoother and cohesion less dependent on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main figures and comparisons, with useful terms such as “average hours,” “highest,” and “respectively.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate. “Highest numbers of users” misrepresents a table about hours spent online, and “similar internet users had the groups” is difficult to interpret. Repeated use of “age groups,” “internet users,” and “European countries” also makes the description less precise and varied. Aim to use the table’s measurement consistently and choose natural phrases for describing figures and age bands. These changes would improve clarity without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes a mix of simple sentences and some more developed structures, including a relative clause in “the highest numbers of users, which were 19 boys and 18 girls.” Most of the intended comparisons remain understandable, but some grammatical errors are evident. For example, “the age groups of 16 to 20 had the highest internet users” has an unclear grammatical relationship, and “7 boys were used internet” uses an incorrect passive form. There are also agreement and sentence-construction problems in “the age groups over 51 years was the least” and “the similar internet users had the groups of 26 to 30.” Practise forming accurate subject–verb patterns and active comparisons, while retaining the range of sentence forms already attempted.
