Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the table’s main peak accurately: people aged 16–20 record the highest averages, at 19 hours for males and 18 for females. You also mention the 11–15 group and recognise that the older groups spend less time online. However, the report is only partial: it stops before describing the remaining figures, including the equal values for ages 26–30 and the small female advantage in the two oldest groups. The overview also groups several age bands together as spending the least, without distinguishing their values. The response is 54 words below the required minimum, which leaves the key comparisons and overall pattern under-developed. Include a complete overview and report the main contrasts across all age groups.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, sensible structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph giving figures for the two youngest groups. This helps the reader identify the topic and the main peak. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph ends abruptly after the 11–15 figures, with no concluding comparison or coverage of the other age bands. Linking is also repetitive: “Followed by” is used to connect points, but the relationship between the groups is not developed into a clear sequence. Organise the details into a complete progression, for example by describing the peak first and then comparing the declining figures, and use linking phrases to show contrasts as well as sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a table, including “Overall,” “age group,” “average,” and “numbers.” The meaning is generally recoverable, but the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation problems make the report less clear and less precise. Examples include “spent their time on internet,” “on the basises of gender,” and “most of people.” Spelling errors such as “gorup,” “tabel,” and “unmbers” are noticeable. Aim for concise, accurate reporting language and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe the figures as average hours spent online by males and females, rather than using the awkward phrase “spent their time on internet.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response uses a few simple sentence patterns and attempts an overview, but the grammatical range is limited and errors occur frequently. The opening sentence has an awkward structure in “how europeans spent their time on internet,” while “most hours are being spent” uses an unsuitable passive construction for describing the table. The fragment “Followed by age group 11-15” is not a complete sentence, and the final sentence lacks a full stop. There are also problems with articles and number patterns, as in “most of people” and “the numbers of male of 8.” Use complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and practise accurate comparative structures such as “males averaged 19 hours, compared with 18 for females.”
