Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table compares the average hours spent on the Internet by six age groups of European people.
Overall, males and females in the 16-20 age group spent the most hours on the Internet. The individuals between 11-15 were the second largest users, as compared to the 51+ age group, who were the least online users.
19 and 18 were the highest average hours used by the males and females of the 16-20 age group, respectively. The 11-15 age group was the second-highest internet users with males spent 8 hours in average and females spent 6 hours. Regardless of the 21-25 years adults who used an average 12 hours Internet, with males and females spent 7 and 5 hours, respectively.
However, males and females between 26 and 30 years old, each spent 4 hours online. In comparison, the 31-50 age group used total of 7 hours, with 3 hours by men and 4 hours by women on the Internet. The least hours were spent by the 51+ age group, with men used 2 hours and women used 3 hours in average on the Internet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main pattern accurately: the 16–20 group records the highest figures for both sexes, while people aged 51+ record the lowest. You also report the values for every age group, and your overview gives a useful comparison between younger and older users. This meets the task well. However, the sentence saying the 21–25 group “used an average 12 hours Internet” is misleading: 12 is the combined male and female total, whereas the table gives separate averages of 7 and 5 hours. The overview could also capture the broader pattern more clearly, such as the sharp peak at 16–20 followed by lower figures in older groups. This accurate coverage with one unclear comparison supports the response’s current level; greater precision and a more complete synthesis would strengthen it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response is arranged in a clear sequence: an introduction and overview are followed by details for the younger groups and then the older groups. This makes the information generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In comparison” help signal relationships. Cohesion is not always controlled, however. “Regardless of” does not introduce the 21–25 figures logically, and the sentence beginning “The 21–25 years adults” is difficult to connect to the preceding point. The repeated pattern of listing each age group also makes the report somewhat mechanical. Use more precise links, and group figures around meaningful comparisons—for example, the peak group versus the remaining age groups—to create smoother progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing the table, including “average hours,” “highest,” “second-highest,” and “least.” These choices communicate the main comparisons, and the topic vocabulary is generally appropriate. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, though. “The second largest users” is less precise than describing the group as having the second-highest usage, while “used total of 7 hours” and “hours were spent by” are awkward in this context. “Regardless of” is also not an appropriate connector for introducing a comparison. Aim for consistent, natural reporting language such as “spent,” “recorded,” and “usage,” and avoid calling the combined 12 hours an average when it is the sum of two figures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “as compared to” and “with,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in verb patterns and sentence construction. For example, “the 11-15 age group was the second-highest internet users with males spent 8 hours” combines incompatible structures; use “the group ranked second, with males spending 8 hours.” Similarly, “with men used 2 hours” should be “with men spending 2 hours,” and “males and females spent 7 and 5 hours” needs a clearer grammatical link to the group. There are also missing articles in phrases such as “used total of 7 hours.” More consistently accurate clauses would improve control.
