Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the table’s subject and include several accurate figures, including the male peak of 19 hours for ages 16–20 and the decline to 2 hours among those aged 51+. However, the overview is unclear and inaccurate: “male is the most common number” does not explain the main pattern, and men do not spend more time in every age group, since women record higher figures at 31–50 and 51+, while the sexes are equal at 26–30. The female figures are also described as increasing to 18 without clearly noting the subsequent fall. The response contains 135 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 24 words copied from the prompt are not counted. Add a clearer overview and develop the key comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for male and female figures. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is difficult to follow because several figures and changes are packed into long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the male paragraph moves from the peak to the oldest group, then back to ages 11–15 and forward again. Linking words such as “however,” “and then,” and “meanwhile” are used, but some do not clearly express the relationship between the data. Group the figures in a consistent age order and use clearer sentence boundaries and comparisons to make the progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “average hours,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “equal number.” This shows an attempt to report trends rather than simply list values. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “male is the most common number,” “numbers were rose aggressively,” and “recover slightly” for a decline. Spelling and form errors, including “untill,” also reduce precision. Choose standard chart language and use it consistently: describe figures as hours or values, and distinguish a rise, a fall, a peak, and a comparison. More precise vocabulary would make the trends easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt longer sentences with clauses linked by words such as “however,” “then,” and “while,” and the reader can identify many of the age groups and figures. However, the longer constructions are often faulty, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas difficult to interpret. For example, “male numbers were rose” has an incorrect verb form, while “compared with female is lower than male number” lacks a clear grammatical structure. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and punctuation, including spaces before commas and inconsistent sentence boundaries. Use shorter, complete sentences as a foundation, then add controlled comparisons such as “Men recorded 19 hours, compared with 18 for women.”
