Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern that the 16–20 age group has the highest figures and that people aged 51+ have the lowest, and you include several relevant male–female comparisons. However, the report does not consistently describe the table accurately: it gives hours, not percentages, so figures such as “8%” and “19%” are mislabelled. The final comparison also says males aged 51+ used the Internet for “only 3%”, whereas the table shows 2 hours; the female figure is 3 hours. The 26–30 figures are equal at 4 hours, but this is not stated explicitly. To make the summary more complete, report the units correctly and give a concise overview of the overall age pattern as well as the gender differences.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an opening, a short overview and paragraphs describing age groups. Linking expressions such as “By contrast”, “Furthermore” and “Moreover” show an effort to connect information. However, progression is not always clear: the age groups are presented in sequence without a strong organising comparison, and several transitions feel mechanical or are punctuated incorrectly, as in “Additionally.” The overview is also separated from the details but does not guide the reader through the main comparisons. Some sentences run together, for example the sentence ending “female users.Furthermore”. Grouping the figures into younger and older age ranges, then comparing the sexes within those groups, would create a clearer progression and make the connections between details easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “proportion”, “age group” and “internet users”, and attempt to vary expressions for reporting figures. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “percentage of hours consumer” does not clearly describe what the table measures, and “internet users” suggests numbers of people rather than hours spent online. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “teenegers”, “greter”, “similer” and “figeure”. Aim for precise, repeated-use terms such as “average hours online” and “male/female figures”; accuracy and clarity are more valuable here than using several near-synonyms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and more developed comparisons, such as “By contrast, the percentage … over fifty was lowest” and the sentence beginning “Whereas”. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. Examples include “The percentage … in 11-15 years were”, where the subject and verb do not agree, and “internet users in European people different age group”, which lacks a clear grammatical structure. The “Whereas” clause is left as a fragment, while missing spaces and inconsistent punctuation also affect readability. Practise building accurate comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example, “Males aged 11–15 spent 8 hours online, compared with 6 hours for females.”
