Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the table’s subject and report several accurate comparisons, including the figures for ages 16–20 (19 for males and 18 for females) and the equal values of 4 for ages 26–30. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main pattern: the highest figures are for both sexes aged 16–20, while the lowest are for those aged 51+, rather than simply the “highest number of male” and “lowest number of women.” The opening age group is also not identified, and the response mostly lists individual figures without explaining the overall decline across older groups or the small differences between sexes. A clearer overview and more selective reporting of the key trends would make the summary more complete and relevant.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a basic order, beginning with an introduction and overview before moving through the age groups, so the reader can locate some of the comparisons. However, the ideas do not develop into a clear overall progression: the overview is difficult to interpret, and the body is largely a sequence of figures joined by repeated phrases such as “the number of” and “who spent their time on internet.” There is also no clear paragraph separation, and punctuation around transitions is inconsistent, as in “31 to 50 . the average number.” Grouping the age bands into higher-use and lower-use groups, with a distinct overview paragraph, would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “table,” “average,” “difference,” and “similar,” and the reader can generally understand that the response compares internet use by age and sex. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise. For example, “spent their time on internet” is repeated instead of using a concise phrase such as “spent online,” while “highest number of male” does not clearly describe the data. Some word forms and collocations are also awkward, including “over view” and “orderly” where “respectively” is intended. More precise terms such as “hours online,” “figure,” and “age group” would help you describe the table naturally and avoid repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, for example, “The number of female age 16 to 20 year who use internet was 18 which was less than of male 19.” This shows an effort to connect information, but the sentence patterns are often faulty and make some comparisons hard to read. Errors include missing articles and plural forms (“the number of males,” “females aged 16 to 20”), incorrect comparison structure (“less than of”), and inconsistent tense (“who use” alongside “was”). Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, particularly in “31 to 50 . the average number.” Practise accurate comparative structures and use consistent past-tense reporting; shorter, correctly punctuated sentences would improve clarity.
