Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main pattern: the 16–20 group records the highest figures for both sexes, while the 51+ group records the lowest, and you report most of the table’s values accurately. The comparison that males generally spend more time online is also supported by the data, although females are higher in the 31–50 and 51+ groups. However, the overview is brief and does not clearly summarise the overall decline after the 16–20 peak or the near-equality in some groups. The response also contains 143 words, below the required 150, and some comparisons are only listed rather than developed. Add a little more synthesis and ensure the response meets the minimum length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph reporting details. It also moves through the age groups in a sensible order, which helps the reader follow the figures. However, progression is weakened by abrupt or awkward links such as “However” in the overview and “Whereas” at the start of a sentence. Several details are presented as separate statements without a clear grouping of the larger trends, and the final two age groups could be connected more smoothly to the overall comparison. Use cohesive devices more accurately and organise the body around meaningful patterns—for example, the peak and subsequent decline, followed by the small differences between sexes.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for describing the table, including “compares,” “similar,” “spent more time,” and “the figure,” so the topic remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the writing less natural. Examples include “avarage,” “spent high than,” “used almost similar hours,” and “resfectively.” Repeated use of “spent” and “hours on internet” also reduces flexibility. Aim to use accurate reporting phrases such as “recorded,” “the figure was,” and “spent an average of,” while checking spelling and choosing natural combinations. More precise vocabulary would make the comparisons clearer without requiring unnecessarily complex words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentence forms, including comparisons with “while” and “when,” and the reader can generally identify the intended figures. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence structure, verb forms, articles, and punctuation. For example, “11-15 years male spending 8 hours” lacks a finite verb, while “people of 16-20 years aged spent” uses an awkward and incorrect structure. The overview also begins “overall, people” without appropriate capitalisation or spacing. Practise building accurate basic sentences first, such as “Males aged 11–15 spent 8 hours online,” then combine them with correctly formed clauses. Check subject–verb structure and sentence boundaries before adding complex links.
