Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main pattern that internet use is highest among people aged 16–20 and generally lower in older groups, and you include figures for both sexes. However, the response only partly fulfils the task because some key comparisons are unclear or inaccurate. The table reports hours, not percentages, so descriptions such as “19 per cent” and “2 percent” misrepresent the units. The male figure of 19 is also assigned to “19–20” rather than the 16–20 age group. Your overview could more clearly state that males record higher use in most groups, while females are higher in the two oldest groups and equal at ages 26–30. Reporting the data accurately and selecting these main contrasts would make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of male and female figures. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several comparisons are difficult to follow because ideas are crowded together, as in the sentence listing the male figures for ages 21–25, 26–30 and 31–50. Linking words such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “Moreover” are attempted, but some do not clearly express the relationship between the figures. Use clearer paragraphing and one comparison per sentence, grouping age bands with similar patterns. This would improve the flow without relying on frequent transition words.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “average,” “highest,” “comparison,” and “amount,” so the reader can recognise that you are describing a table. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning less precise. “Offenders” is inappropriate for internet users, while “usage” and “engadge” are misspelled or incorrectly formed. Repeated phrases such as “using internet” and “spend their time” also make the description sound awkward. Choose precise terms for the data, such as “hours online,” “recorded,” and “figure,” and check spelling and word forms. Avoid describing the values as percentages when the table gives hours.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast beginning “While” and a sentence starting “In contrast.” However, sentence structures are often incomplete or faulty, which sometimes makes relationships between ideas hard to understand. For example, “While only 2 percent male are engaged their time” lacks a complete main clause and has problems with articles and sentence construction. In “there were spend their most of the time,” the verb form is incorrect, and several sentences run together without clear punctuation. Focus first on complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then use accurate comparisons such as “Males aged 51 and over spent two hours online, compared with three hours for females.”
