Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify relevant broad patterns, including the peak among 16–20-year-olds, the low figures for people aged 51 and over, and the equal male and female figures for ages 26–30. However, the response is very brief and only minimally summarises the table: it gives no actual figures and omits several useful comparisons, such as the sharp fall after age 16–20 and the small female advantage in the two oldest groups. The claim that females use the internet less than males “till they turn 30” is too broad, since the figures are equal at 26–30. The required minimum length is not met. Develop a clear overview and support it with accurate data from across the age groups.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the table, gives an overall observation, and then mentions the oldest group and the equal figures for ages 26–30. This gives the reader some sense of the main points. However, the ideas are compressed into one continuous passage, with no clear paragraphing or progression from overview to supporting comparisons. The linking phrase “while” helps connect the gender comparison, but the relationships between the remaining points are not clearly signposted. The abrupt transition to “at the age of 25 to 30” also makes the final detail feel disconnected. Organise the response into a short introduction, an overview, and a paragraph comparing the figures by age.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a small set of relevant terms, including “age group,” “gender based difference,” “declined,” and “number of hours,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the vocabulary is limited and some choices or forms are inaccurate: “hour spent on internet” and “people use the internet more” are imprecise for describing average hours in a table, while “most declined use” is not a natural way to describe the lowest figures. Spelling errors such as “differen” and “there” for “their” also reduce accuracy. Use precise data-reporting language and check spelling; for example, describe figures as “average hours” and say that usage “was lowest” among the oldest group.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to combine ideas in a longer sentence, using “while” and “as compared to,” and the reader can understand the general message. However, the response relies on a narrow range of sentence patterns, and errors recur in basic structures. For example, “The table … it also give us” has faulty agreement and an unnecessary repeated subject; “till they turn 30” shifts into an informal present-tense construction; and “at age of 51 or above” is missing an article. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with a missing space after the full stop before “at the age.” Aim for complete, clearly separated sentences, checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
