Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response makes an attempt to describe the table and mentions several age groups, but it does not clearly summarise the main pattern or provide a reliable overview. Some figures are reported inaccurately or are difficult to match to the table: for example, the 16–20 group is described as having “more then one fifth” hours, although the values are 19 for males and 18 for females, and the 31–50 figures are not clearly identified. The closing statement that the maximum is “less then one fifth” is also unclear. The response is 128 words, below the required 150; the 11 words copied from the prompt were not counted. To improve, give a clear overview of the peak at ages 16–20 and the general decline among older groups, then support it with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an opening, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “Probing further” signal a move to more detail. However, the ideas do not progress clearly because several sentences are incomplete or combine figures without identifying the age group or sex. For instance, “whereas, European was spent 7 male on the internet.and 3 female hours” is difficult to follow, and the final overview does not clearly connect to the details. Linking words such as “however” and “whereas” are used, but their relationships are often unclear. Group the figures in a consistent order, use one sentence per comparison, and make the overview a distinct, accurate summary.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “average hours,” “age groups,” “adults,” and “difference,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “at a fleeting glance,” “more then one fifth,” and “maximum less then one fifth.” Repeatedly saying “spent on the internet” also makes the description less concise. There are spelling errors, including “then” for “than” and “spenr,” and some word combinations obscure the intended comparisons. Use straightforward, accurate language for data reporting, such as “recorded,” “spent,” “higher than,” and “fell to,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “whereas,” but control is weak and errors frequently make the meaning difficult to recover. The opening has subject–verb disagreement in “The given table illustrate,” while fragments such as “More then one in ten,8 male hours spent…” lack a clear grammatical structure. Agreement and sentence construction are also problematic in “European was spent 7 male,” and punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops and unnecessary commas. Build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb—for example, “Males aged 11–15 spent 8 hours online, compared with 6 hours for females”—and use punctuation to separate each comparison.
