Student answer (Band 6.5)
While many advocate that accepting a painful situation is essential, others argue that improving such situations is a advantageous option, and this essay will examine both perspectives before arguing that trying to improve such situations is crucial.
Proponents of this viewpoint argue that it is best to accept a bad phase in life and discover happiness in whatever we acquire. This is primarily because such situations teaches individuals the importance of acceptance with leaving a peaceful life even if things do not work according to their needs . For instance, for an employee working under an organized is not satisfied with his job should be grateful that he accumulated a job rather than thinking the negative consequences .
On the other hand, many people contend that it is essential to improve difficult situations. This approach is considered beneficial because it enables individuals in accurate decision making. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument regarding the employee is a bit vague and lacks a clear connection to the broader concept of 'accepting a bad situation'. While the position is consistent, the supporting examples could be more detailed to fully explore the implications of each approach. The essay meets the requirements of the task, but the depth of analysis is limited, which prevents it from reaching the higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'For instance', and 'Consequently' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the sentence 'for an employee working under an organized is not satisfied', which disrupts the logical progression of the point being made. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'mitigate', 'optimizing', and 'proponents'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'accumulated a job' instead of 'secured a job' or 'appeared for competitive exams secured low rank', which is grammatically awkward. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, the lack of precision and occasional awkward phrasing limit the score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage (e.g., 'such situations teaches', 'working under an organized is not satisfied', 'dealing with such situation'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is sometimes clunky, which occasionally hinders the flow. The errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points. To improve, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement and refining complex sentence constructions.
