Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, consisting of only 79 words. Because the essay is incomplete and stops mid-sentence, it fails to address the prompt fully. The ideas are introduced but not developed, and the discussion of both views is not completed. The position is stated, but the lack of supporting arguments and examples prevents the response from meeting the criteria for a higher band. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words and provide a balanced, fully developed discussion for both perspectives before concluding.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The text is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or logical progression. While there is an attempt to use a cohesive device ('One the one hand'), the essay breaks off abruptly, making it impossible to evaluate the overall structure or the use of linking words. The lack of a clear paragraph structure and the incomplete nature of the writing mean that the ideas are not arranged coherently. To improve, focus on planning your essay into four distinct paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs for the opposing views, and a conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, such as 'bad situation' and 'improve'. There are errors in word formation, such as 'peoples' instead of 'people' and 'tthat' (a typo). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms and more precise academic collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'bad situation', you could use terms like 'adverse circumstances' or 'challenging environment'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('accept a bad situation'), incorrect pluralization ('peoples'), and punctuation issues. The sentence structures are simple and contain errors that occasionally impede the flow of the text. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures, which are necessary for higher band scores. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using articles correctly. Practicing complex sentences with subordinating conjunctions like 'although' or 'whereas' will also help improve your range.
