Student answer (Band 6.0)

The life strands you up in such situations that you have only limited resources and you have to make the best out of it. May be because of this reason people accept their bad situation such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money.

While others who argue that it is better to try and improve such situations are definitely commenting the correct thing , both of these statements are like assertion and reasoning .

Whenever we are stuck in life with such situations we should definitely work harder and find the solution of that situation.

During my senior secondary school , I secured only 47% in the first term , I was not disheartened rather worked up to the mark to secure myself a 87% at the year end.

Although, if I take the low paying job situation upon myself , I will accept it rather than just discarding it away with time I will upgrade my skills and eventually apply for a better job or secure a good position in the previous company itself.

If a person is stuck in a bad mental space where he has been unable to come up with his spiritual , financial and physical aspects of his life he should not give his self up.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both sides of the argument and provide a personal opinion, the discussion is underdeveloped. The points regarding the job situation and personal academic experience are relevant but lack sufficient depth and analysis to fully explore the complexities of the prompt. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and illustrative examples, ensuring that each paragraph contributes substantially to the overall discussion. The current length prevents a full development of the topic, leading to a lower band score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. The paragraphs are fragmented, and the transition between ideas is often abrupt. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'While' and 'Although', they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a way that does not effectively link the sentences. The logical progression of ideas is hindered by the short, disjointed sentences. To improve, you should focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details. Proper paragraphing is essential to guide the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally functional but limited. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'bad situation' and 'work harder', which lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'life strands you up' and 'commenting the correct thing', which indicate a lack of familiarity with natural English expressions. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more academic vocabulary and precise collocations. Focus on learning synonyms for common words and practicing how to use them in context to express your ideas more effectively and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'I was not disheartened rather worked up to the mark' and 'unable to come up with his spiritual... aspects' are grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading your work for common errors. Increasing your control over complex structures will help you convey more sophisticated ideas with greater accuracy and fluency.
