IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Everyone face unfavourable circumstances in their life. Some people said that individuals should accept challenging situations while other thinks completely different. They argue that person should try to improve harsh time. Both groups have different perceptions to visualize things.

On the one hand, people who think that it is the best to welcome a bad situation rather than making unnecessary efforts because they know that some conditions are not in our control. They might influence by external factors for instance, in some developing area unemployment rate is much higher adults cannot find their jobs as per their skill and requirements so the accept work whatever they find. Further, some individuals have not willingness to tackle unstable circumstances because they might lack certain vital resources or courage to face it. For example, if a person faces financial crisis than he will not thought to switch to another job due to it takes long time.

On the other hand, some young mindset are willing to improve their bad time by hard-work. They believe in their inner strength and have significant faith on themselves that they can change their unpredictable situation into favourable one. For example, if an employee do not enjoy with his work he will send his CV to another companies for finding satisfactory and dream job.

To recapitulate, in my opinion individuals should take decision of accepting and improving harsh situation on the basis of time, environment, and available opportunity. People should be prudent which conditions are in their control or not and how they want to act against bad time.

However, there are instances of improper word choice, such as "young mindset" which could be better expressed as "youth" or "young adults." The use of phrases like "work whatever they find" is informal and could be more academic. Incorporating a wider range of vocabulary with more precision would enhance this criterion, demonstrating a stronger command of lexical resources.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

Grammatical range and accuracy show inconsistencies. The student uses a variety of sentence structures, but several grammatical errors detract from clarity, such as "Everyone face" (should be "faces"), "some people said" (should be "say"), and "he will not thought" (should be "think"). There are issues with subject-verb agreement and verb tenses. Although the grammatical errors sometimes impede meaning, the overall message is still understandable. Strengthening grammatical accuracy would significantly improve the score here.

This response effectively addresses the task by presenting both sides of the debate while incorporating personal opinions and examples.
