Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often argued that it is better to accept a difficult situation like an unsatisfactory job or shortage of finances than try to improve it. This essay will explore both viewpoints and conclude with my opinion.
On the one hand, individuals tend to believe it is easier to accept hardships in life rather than coming up with solutions to overcome them. This is mainly because of personal factors and financial strain related to monthly housing rent, school fees of children and other household needs. For instance, multiple studies have revealed that adults face multiple mental health concerns such as stress and anxiety due to helplessness. Additionally, loss of hope is another factor seen in people going through bad instances, but they end up sticking with the problems because of fear.
On the other hand, it is often argued that it is best to tackle and improve the situations because it helps find a practical solution to the problem. Although it may seem more complex, it always improves the current circumstances. For example, research has shown that people who try to overcome a predicament have greater prospects in life. Therefore, it is evident that it always enhances the quality of different prospects in life if people try to overcome hard situations.
In conclusion, while both perspectives have merit, I personally believe that individuals who try to improve such situations are more convincing, primarily because it improves current circumstances. Ultimately, enhancing the quality of life of people going through very bad situations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention financial strain and mental health as reasons for accepting a bad situation, these points are not fully explored with specific, concrete examples. Similarly, the argument for improving situations is quite general, relying on vague references to 'research' and 'greater prospects' rather than providing a tangible scenario or a more detailed explanation. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main point is supported by a specific, well-developed example or a more detailed logical explanation that connects directly to the prompt's context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Additionally', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow within paragraphs could be improved; some sentences feel slightly disconnected. For instance, the transition between the mention of 'mental health' and 'loss of hope' in the second paragraph is a bit abrupt. Strengthening the logical links between sentences would enhance the overall flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'hardships', 'financial strain', 'predicament', and 'prospects'. The language is generally precise enough to convey your meaning clearly. However, there is some repetition of basic words like 'situations' and 'problems'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and collocations related to the topic of career and personal development. While your word choice is sufficient for a Band 6, expanding your repertoire of topic-specific vocabulary and using more sophisticated phrasing would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'While both perspectives have merit, I personally believe that...' and 'Although it may seem more complex, it always improves the current circumstances.' These complex structures are generally accurate. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as the sentence fragment in the conclusion: 'Ultimately, enhancing the quality of life of people going through very bad situations.' This lacks a main verb and subject to be a complete sentence. Despite this, your grammar is generally controlled, and errors do not impede communication.
