Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 162 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both views and provides a personal opinion, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence or detailed explanation. The introduction is unclear, and the body paragraphs are fragmented, failing to fully explore the complexities of the prompt. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed examples and ensure each point is fully explained to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a deeper engagement with the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by the lack of depth and incomplete sentences. Cohesive devices are used in a very basic and sometimes mechanical way, such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the lack of sufficient content makes the overall structure feel disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by well-developed supporting ideas that flow logically into one another.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally functional but limited. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'wrong situation' instead of 'difficult situation' or 'unfavourable circumstances'. Phrases like 'do for better situations' are awkward and lack precision. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'financial independence' and 'upskilling', the overall range is insufficient to express complex ideas fluently. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary, while ensuring that your word choices are natural and contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with sentence structure, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement. For example, 'other argue that it is good way you can accept your problem' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing sentences are often fragmented or poorly constructed. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction before attempting more complex structures. Ensure that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofread your work to correct basic errors in tense and word order.
