Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, containing only 97 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you identify two opposing views, the discussion is extremely limited and lacks the necessary depth, supporting evidence, or examples required for an academic essay. The position is stated, but it is not developed into a coherent argument. To improve, you must expand on your ideas by providing specific reasons and relevant examples for both perspectives, ensuring you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction or conclusion, and the ideas are presented in a fragmented manner. While there is a basic attempt to use linking words like 'In addition' and 'however', the overall progression of ideas is weak. The paragraphing is insufficient, as the text is presented in a way that does not clearly separate the different viewpoints or your own opinion. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that you use a wider range of cohesive devices to link your sentences and paragraphs logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is somewhat repetitive and basic. Phrases such as 'good trait' and 'kind of mindset' are quite informal and lack the precision expected in an academic task. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'resilience', 'professional development', or 'stagnation', and ensure that your word choices are precise and appropriate for the context of a formal essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical issues, including run-on sentences and punctuation errors, such as the lack of full stops between distinct ideas. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of variety in complex sentence forms. For example, the first sentence is a long, unpunctuated string of clauses. To improve, focus on using a mix of simple and complex sentences, and pay closer attention to basic punctuation rules, such as using periods to separate independent clauses, which will significantly improve the readability and accuracy of your writing.
