Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many people are afraid of change in circumstances, and they are convinced that it is better to stay at a job that is not enjoyable and lacks money. But I strongly believe that it is paramount to try and make positive changes. This essay discusses both sides of the statement.

On the one hand, people argue that they are familiar with the works, despite their satisfaction. They are always afraid of change that may be positive or negative and remain in a situation, although it is bad. They do not want to take responsibility and improve the situation. For instance, the majority of people from the lower level of management always tend to work as directed and not to take part in leadership. They just wait and do not come out from their comfort zone.

On the other hand, people always believe in gradual improvement. They tend to work on different variables that are causing problems by taking initiative by themselves. It is more about traits rather than behavior. They prefer qualities at work and perform their best. Similarly, they do not settle for less. Change is the inevitable thing, so devoid of any consequences, they try to improve. Like, people from the higher level of management do not settle for what is available around them. They need perfection and do not wait for destiny to simplify the situation.

In conclusion, some people accept every situation and wait for the fate and always afraid of change while other individuals seek quality over excuses.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses both sides of the argument and presents a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention 'lower level management' and 'higher level management' as examples, these points are not fully explored or supported with concrete, real-world evidence. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively summarise the main points or restate your position in a sophisticated way. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation and a specific example to support your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Similarly'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'They prefer qualities at work and perform their best', where the link to the previous argument is slightly weak. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'paramount', 'inevitable', and 'variables'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'familiar with the works' (should be 'familiar with their work') and 'devoid of any consequences' (which does not fit the context). Some phrasing is repetitive, particularly the use of 'people' and 'situation'. To improve, try to use more precise synonyms and focus on natural collocations to express your ideas more fluently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'always afraid of change' (missing the verb 'are') and 'wait for the fate' (unnecessary article). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'Change is the inevitable thing'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
