Student answer (Band 6.5)

Encountering and accepting a bad decision is great but not doing something about is worse, People have a lot of various bad situations in their life and when they fail to accept it and do something about it, they end up making even a lot more bad decisions in their lives.

I believe there could be a lot of bad situations in your life, it could be any form, could be financial restraint or an unsatisfactory job or any other personal hardship in life. But getting stuck in that situation and not trying to get out of it is actually worse. Many people get stuck in a certain situation in life and when they give up on trying, that is when they actually lose help and do not try to make situation better by taking a practical step or a wise decision.

As far as my personal experience, I have had a lot of bad situations in my life where it felt like it impossible to step out of it. But I tried my best took some pragmatic decisions as to how can I get out of this situation and convert my bad situation into a slow success by merely taking a few meticulous steps.

Recently I lost my job, and it brought a very tough time for me and my family but instead of losing hope and accepting bad situation happened to me, I started a business with a very low profit and I kept going, as a result I generated hefty amount of revenue by the end of few months.

Tough situations can be a part and parcel of our daily lives, but the best thing one can do is to try and come out of such circumstances by overlooking the decisions one took in the past and just replacing them with decisions taken with a prudent approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention financial restraint and job loss, the arguments remain quite general and repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' of these situations with more depth. For instance, you could discuss the psychological benefits of acceptance versus the long-term growth associated with proactive change. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesize the points made. Ensure that each paragraph contributes a distinct, well-supported idea to fully satisfy the 'discuss' requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'As far as my personal experience' and 'As a result' are used, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother. Some sentences feel disjointed, particularly in the introduction, where the flow of ideas is slightly interrupted by grammatical issues. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your logic.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'pragmatic,' 'meticulous,' and 'prudent.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'lose help' (which is unclear) and 'bad situation happened to me' (which is grammatically awkward). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and try to use more academic synonyms for common words like 'bad' or 'good' to enhance the tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as comma splices and subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'not doing something about is worse'). Some sentences are also slightly awkward, such as 'it could be any form, could be financial restraint.' These errors do not generally impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic errors and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed with correct subordinate clauses.
